It's no secret that our nation is in trouble. America is less free, less secure, and less democratic than it was at the beginning of this year.

And yet there's no going back - the most important thing now is to set our country up for a better future. This moment demands a real alternative to today's cruel chaos.

Yet ideas alone aren't enough. We need to meet people where they are, break through in new ways, and show how a better kind of politics is possible. 

In the months ahead, I'll be on the road and online, in conversation with Americans about how we can build a better politics and future for our country.

I once heard it said that hope is the consequence of action, rather than its cause. In this troubled season, hope will arise from what we choose to do next.
