Teachers Unify

When my former teacher asked me to text you about Teachers Unify, I knew it was important both to me and for future generations...because I was in her 2nd grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary on that awful day when tragedy struck our school.

Ryan, my name is Cyrena. I was only 7 that day, but even then, my favorite teachers taught me to fight for what's right.

One of those teachers was Ms. Soto, who died trying to keep kids alive. The other was Ms. Clements, who co-founded Teachers Unify, the only solely teacher-led organization fighting to end gun violence.

I carry both their examples with me in my advocacy now. So it concerns me to watch other teachers cut out of the conversation about gun violence.

That's why I'm reaching out, Ryan. Honestly, every time I hear about another school shooting, it feels like I failed. But Teachers Unify gives me hope that we really can make change.

They work every day to help teachers become advocates and pass laws to keep all of us safer. But Ryan, nobody can win this fight alone.
