It's Eugene Vindman. I'll be honest, I never thought I would be here today, writing to you as a member of Congress.
I'm a Jewish-Ukrainian refugee from the Soviet Union, whose family came to America to find hope like so many others, and I was proud to join the military and serve this country.
When my brother, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, and I witnessed President Trump abuse his power and threaten to block Ukraine's military aid unless they investigated Joe Biden, we refused to stay silent.
We reported the call up the chain of command, and it eventually led to his impeachment, but it cost us our careers when we were fired in retaliation.
Back then, I never envisioned I would run for Congress, let alone become a member. But here I am, nearly seven years since that phone call, fighting to defend democracy in the People's House and still fighting for accountability.
Now, our seat is one of the key few that will determine party control of the House in 2027. And if we slow down or fall short, we risk losing this seat and our opportunity to retake the House next year.
