Being born a Black boy in Chicago to a biological mother who suffered from a substance abuse disorder, the odds of succeeding were not in my favor.

All throughout my upbringing, I heard that I'd "never amount to anything." And for a long time, I believed it.

But that all changed when I started working in my community. I found a passion for organizing, and even when I was the only one who believed in myself, I fought anyway. 

I defied the odds, became a state senator, and passed bills to protect everyone from the unjustly incarcerated to workers to women and LGBTQ+ people.

Now, I'm ready to defy the odds once again and bring our fight to Congress. I'm ready to fight like hell for every American who's had the deck stacked against them by Trump's MAGA agenda.
